Talk : Is there an Indian City?

This talk was delivered by Prof. Pratyush Shankar at Beyond the Metropolis: An Online Symposium organised by School of Environment and Architecture(SEA), Mumbai, on 4th February 2022.

This talk historicizes the evolution of cities in India, through various examples, and tries to establish how the idea and the notion of the city in the Indian subcontinent was always a contested and appropriated one. By unraveling the “construct” of the city in different historical eras the talk establishes how the cities in India were were quite often fractured and “work in progress”
