Pratyush Shankar

Pratyush Shankar is a Senior Alexander Humboldt Research Fellow and Guest Professor at the University of Bonn, Germany and Adjunct Professor at Faculty of Architecture, CEPT University, Ahmedabad India. He is member of the Board of Studies at the Department of Architecture, M S University, Vadodara, member of the editorial Board of the journal of ISVS (International Seminar for Vernacualr Settlement) and Guest Professor at the Mundus Urbano Program at Architecture Faculty, TU Darmstadt, Germany

He is presently conducting research on questions of landscape and Urban History at Universität Bonn, Germany and is writing a book on the History of Urban Form in India (Oxford University Press)

The Design Practice


Pratyush runs a design practice along with his academic interest. The practice is critical and innovative, and tries to look at questions of architectural production especially concerning new relationship with nature, idea of light and poetics in space. He was awarded the 22nd J K Cement Architect of the Year award 2013 in Residence Design Category

Teaching and Writing


Prof. Pratyush was the Acting Dean of Architecture and head of the Undergraduate Program at CEPT University and has been teaching Urban History and Design for many years now. He has recently authored the book titled “Himalayan Cities: Settlement Pattern, Public Places and Architecture” published by Niyogi Publishers, New Delhi, 2014. He has delivered lectures and seminar in many different universities around the world and has widely published. He has received numerous International fellowships and awards for his work on Indian Architecture and Cities. The complete list of publication is below
